Detectives investigating incidents of violent disorder in Merseyside have charged a further four men and a youth has been sentenced.

Riyad Manafakhi, 18 years, of Fulshaw Close in Belle Vale has been charged with two counts of possession of offensive weapon which occurred in Liverpool city centre on Sunday 4 August. He will appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Friday 2 May.

Joseph Cooper, 24 years, of Ascot Close in Birkdale was charged with violent disorder in Southport on Tuesday 30 July. He will appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Tuesday 15 April.

Nicholas Mullen, 22 years, of Kingsley Avenue in Wigan was charged with violent disorder and assault by beating an emergency worker in Southport on Tuesday 30 July.  He will appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Thursday 27 March.

Jack Newton, 30 years, of Park Lane in Bootle has been charged with violent disorder in Southport on Tuesday 30 July. He will appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Saturday 1 April.

A 17-year-old male from Walton, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in court on Tuesday 18 March for his involvement in burglary and violent disorder on County Road in Walton on Saturday 3 August last year.

He was sentenced to 12-month Detention and Training Order (custody) at Liverpool Youth Court.

Detective Inspector Paula Jones said: “Our investigation continues into the violent disorder witnessed in the summer on Merseyside, and we are relentlessly pursuing those who took part and brought disgrace to the region.

“We are committed to ensure those responsible are held to account, including those who travelled to Merseyside to take part in the disorder.

“Our team of officers are continuing to identify more people who displayed such abhorrent behaviour which damaged our communities, and we will not stop until we’ve put everyone we possibly can before the courts.”

The total of people arrested by Merseyside Police has now reached 183, with 146 charged and 122 people sentenced to a combined 222 years and two months in prison so far.
