Kettering 2 Southport 1 Match Report.
They say all good things must come to an end and so it was as Southport’s 14 match unbeaten run came to an end at Kettering this evening.
It didn’t look that way in the first 15 minutes as Southport started brightly and took the lead through Tyler Walton in the 14th minute who headed in a Doug Tharme long throw.
Kettering quickly found their feet and came back well and got an equaliser in the 15th minute when the defence were left flat footed and Sheriff put the home side back on terms.
Southport’s only real chance in the first half came when Jack Bainbridge fired straight at the ‘keeper.
The second half saw the wind increase and it was the home side who dominated the play and it was no surprise when Sheriff grabbed his second of the game beating the offside trap and slotting home.
Southport were struggling to keep the ball and showed very little but in the 90th minute they could have grabbed an equaliser when Tyler Walton was through but blasted the ball over the crossbar.
It was not to be and to be fair Kettering deserved the win and it was the home fans who went home happy.
There was once again great support on the road for a long midweek trek, thank you to everyone who travelled.
We go again on Saturday with the relatively short trip to Chester.
