Let’s Put Southport First! - Local Elections are About Local Issues
Whilst local Lib Dem’s plan to make Sefton Council Trump free and focus their attention on the US President, Southport Conservatives want to see the focus back on Southport and the work that needs doing locally.
Mike Prendergast, Conservative Group Leader on Sefton Council and Dukes Ward councillor, said “Local elections are about local issues and that is what people are voting for. We have a huge number of issues in Southport and across Sefton that need to be addressed.”
“The appalling state of many of our roads and pavements, our local economy, the condition of our town centre, our coastline, delivering value for money for local taxpayers and the provision of vital local services like children’s and adult social care.”
“Stunts might get some clicks and likes online but they won’t help Southport. The reality is that Sefton Council is flat broke, no money left, no reserves and selling £12 million of assets to meet day to day expenditure.”
“It’s likely that Sefton will need to borrow huge sums to get anywhere near completing projects like MLEC and meet ongoing commitments because of years of financial mismanagement from Labour.”
“Focussing attention on Donald Trump, during a local election campaign, does nothing to address these issues. It’s just not a serious approach to addressing important local issues.”
“Conservatives have put forward plans to rejuvenate our town centre, support local businesses, preserve and maintain our heritage and make sure that taxpayer’s money, your money, is spent wisely and on local priorities.”
“Local government is about choices and, sometimes, making difficult decisions about what can be delivered.”
“Southport is a fantastic place to live, work and visit but we could make it so much better and that’s what these local elections are about, delivering change for the better.“
“When you cast your vote in these local elections, you need to ask yourself do you want your roads fixed, a plan for Southport beach, a plan for our town centre and a focus on delivering value for money for local taxpayers or do you just want stunts and gimmicks.”
