Southport Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Erin Harvey met with Engine Room founder Eric Lybeck to hear his plans for supporting a skills regeneration in Southport. The Engine Room has recently opened in Wayfarers Arcade and as well as hosting a co-working space, hopes to become a place for the creative industries to bloom. Erin said

“Eric’s vision is exactly what Southport needs. Young people in the area will benefit from having a space where they can start up a creative business without having to worry about putting up 6 months rent in advance.”

“I know Sefton Council has plans for the Enterprise Arcade but whilst that is still in the pipeline I would urge them to help support the success of the Engine Room with some funding to help renovate the space. The amount they need is a drop in the ocean compared to the cost of the Enterprise Arcade but could help to kick start a real community regeneration project and support career opportunities for our towns young people.”

“When we have people like Eric who are passionate about improving our town center and the opportunities for residents then the council should do all they can to help them and other businesses flourish,”

Eric Lybeck added 'We've had tremendous support from the community, businesses, schools, and local government. We're now in a position to really make a change in Southport, but we could really use a bit of public funding to get things started'
