Man arrested following fatal road traffic collision in Waterloo
Police have arrested a man following a fatal road traffic collision in Waterloo last night, Saturday 29 October.
Just before 10.15pm we received a report of a collision on South Road involving two pedestrians, a man in his 70s, a man in his 50’s, and a black Ford Fiesta.
Emergency services attended, and both men were taken to hospital where sadly the man in his 70’s was pronounced deceased.
The man in his 50s received treatment at hospital for minor injuries and is now recovering at home.
An 18-year-old man from Walton was later arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving.
South Road was closed at the time of the incident and has now reopened to motorists.
We are appealing for witnesses, and for any CCTV and dash camera footage which may have captured the incident, to please get in touch to assist the investigation.
Detective Sergeant Amy Murray, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the man who has sadly lost his life following a collision yesterday evening.
“We have now launched an investigation into his death and his family have been informed. They are being supported by our specially trained liaison officers.
“Although an arrest has been made, our enquiries continue, and we’d urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or properties in the area that have CCTV to please contact us. If you were driving in the vicinity I ask that you please check your dashcam footage that may have captured the incident and to also come forward.
“Every piece information is vitally important to our investigation to establish what happened.”
