A man walking his dog was one of many setbacks for Southport Air Show today. The man decided to walk right down the flight line of the aircraft causing an interruption to the first display of the day after the Red Arrows were cancelled at short notice due to bad weather in Blackpool.

He was eventually escorted back to a safer place by the Lifeboat crew.

Car parking on the beach was suspended due to the condition of the sand. Thousands of people were still stuck in traffic on all major routes into Southport at 1.30pm. Public bus transport was cancelled from Liverpool terminating at Bootle.

The queues of people trying to get into the show was too much for some and they removed the barriers by the Guelder Rose and stormed in for nothing.

There were also long gaps between displays due to various problems with aircraft.
