Match report Southport 2 Gloucester City 1

Southport

A 91st minute winner from Harry Flowers, his first goal for the club was enough to give the home side all three points.

They say when you win and are not at your best is a good sign and that was the case this afternoon as Gloucester made life difficult and will consider themselves unfortunate not to get a point from the game.

The first half was largely non descript with Mikey O’Neill creating the best chance firing just wide and that was as close as we got in a disappointing opening half.

The second period was much better and it took just 37 seconds for Southport to open the scoring. Great work by Keenan Quansah who delivered a perfect cross that Bradley Holmes headed home for what was also his first goal for the side.

Gloucester bounced back well and 7 minutes later a long range shot was spilled by Chris Renshaw in the Southport goal and Williams capitalised and tapped the ball home.

The game then ebbed and flowed with both sides creating good chances the best came when the visitors hit the post after a frantic goalmouth scramble.

As we entered added time it was a corner perfectly delivered by David Morgan that was headed home to cue wild celebrations from the home supporters as the unbeaten run was stretched to 6 games and a 12th place in the table. A quite remarkable turnaround.
