Maximize your child's benefits - claim up to £1,248 a year with this new online service
A new online Child Benefit claims service for new parents is now available.
Parents can claim as much as £1,248 a year for their first child, which could add up to almost £20,000 by the time they’re 16. They could also receive nearly £827 a year for any other children they have.
Back-dated
Child Benefit can be claimed from the day after a child's birth is registered, or once a child comes to live with a household.
It can be back-dated for up to 3 months.
Who should claim
Only one person can claim Child Benefit for a child so parents need to think who should make the claim.
The person who claims will get National Insurance credits towards their state pension if they are not working.
