Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said:

“For too long, people in the North have had to make do with second-class transport because of an unreliable system that simply hasn’t worked for them.

“That’s why today’s announcement is welcome – because it marks a shift towards a government that finally understands that investing in the North is not charity, it’s common sense. With real partnership between regional leaders and Westminster, we can deliver the modern, London-style integrated network our communities deserve.

“Here in the Liverpool City Region, we’ve already shown what’s possible – rolling out the country’s first publicly owned trains in a generation, taking back control of our buses, and now, delivering another brand-new Merseyrail station, this time in the Baltic Triangle. This area is one of the fastest-growing parts of our city and a new station will accelerate growth alongside our plans for three more stations across the region.

“This is what real change looks like: properly funded, locally led, and focused on making a tangible difference to the lives of working people.”

“The announcement today refers to the new station at Liverpool Baltic.

“The Baltic Triangle is one of the most exciting parts of our city – full of life, creativity and independent spirit. It’s gone from a forgotten corner to one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the country, and this new station is about helping it take the next step.

“Better public transport doesn’t just help get people from A to B, it helps us open up a world of opportunity. This station will make it easier for people to get to work, visit friends, support local businesses or just enjoy everything the Baltic has to offer.

“It’s another step towards the London-style integrated transport network we’re building – one that’s built around people, not profit. And it shows what we can do when we invest in places – and back the talent we’ve got on our own doorstep.”
