Meet Mike Braham and Danny Howard: The Lib Dem Team Ready to Serve Dukes Ward
Duke’s Ward Liberal Democrat Councillor, John Pugh, has introduced the other members of the Lib Dem team running for election in Dukes Ward in May.
Dukes Ward is the most socially varied ward in Sefton with extremes of wealth and poverty, including the town centre, but also some of Southport’s most prestigious roads. Royal Birkdale, Southport and Birkdale Cricket Club and Lord St. are all in Dukes Ward.
Because of boundary changes Dukes Ward like all Sefton Wards will elect 3 councillors in May.
Both new Liberał Democrat candidates- Mike Braham and Danny Howard- have memorable back stories outside politics.
Mike Braham, senior partner in one of Southport's oldest law firms, is returning to politics, retiring from his non-political position as Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside working on behalf of the Crown. A lifelong Liberal, he cut his political teeth as a very young man standing against the then prime minister, Harold Wilson. Mike is widely known because of his multiple involvements with many organisations in Southport - the most public of which is the town’s Holocaust Memorial Day. A dogged supporter of local cricket and football, a local historian who has co-authored a history of Southport FC, Mike’s loyalty to the town is beyond question.
Danny Howard has demonstrated his commitment too, being well known on Facebook through his tireless efforts to improve the town centre and find solutions to its problems. No unswept street or unemptied bin escapes Danny’s attention and he is full of ideas for new developments. He is one of the very few people who both work and live in the centre of town and he helps out with Southport Lions. He has brought up a family in Southport and is acutely aware that the town does not currently offer enough opportunities to the next generation.
“I am privileged to have such colleagues in the team ” , says John . “ What they don’t know between them about Southport - probably isn’t worth knowing. But the key thing I like is that they‘re not people who simply seek or need power and status or the dubious distinction of being called “councillor”. They’re balanced folk who have already demonstrated their drive to get things done, work with others and bluntly- try to make our little world a better place."
