Merseyrail Prepares for Everton's New Stadium Opener at Bramley-Moore Dock

We're continuing to test and improve our plans to serve the new Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, working together with Everton Football Club, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Liverpool City Council and other partners.
Sandhills station is the closest Merseyrail station to the new stadium and will be the main stop for fans travelling by train. It takes about 15-minutes to walk between Sandhills station and the stadium.
A new second entrance, with a pedestrian footbridge, is being built at the station and will be completed in time for this event, to help people move through it more easily.
Moorfields and Bank Hall stations are also both within a 30-minute walk of the ground and are excellent alternatives for fans wishing to avoid the busy station at Sandhills. Local bus services also operate between Bank Hall and Sandhills stations.
What's happening?
It's now been confirmed that the first men's senior team fixture at Everton's new Hill Dickinson Stadium will be a double-header, with a legends game following the pre-season match.
To accommodate the expected increase in customer numbers, a 15-minute service will run on the Southport, Ormskirk, Hunts Cross and Headbolt Lane lines before and after the event, with all available 4 and 8-car trains in operation.
To ensure a reliable and efficient service, some temporary changes will be in effect on the Southport line. Between 10:00 and 20:00, Liverpool-bound services will arrive and depart at different times to those of the usual timetable. All available 4 and 8-car trains will be utilised to help accommodate the higher number of customers expected to travel.
Travelling to and from the Wirral
A normal timetable will be in operation on the Wirral line, customers can get off at Moorfields station and board any Headbolt Lane, Southport or Ormskirk line service, that will call at Sandhills station.
For those who prefer to walk, it is a 25-minute walk to the stadium via the Old Hall Street exit at Moorfields station. Additional services will support the usual 30-minute timetable after the game, for fans travelling on the Wirral line after 19:30. The times of these additional trains are available on our Journey Plannerhere.
Travel Advice
Like train stations near other large football stadiums in the UK, Sandhills station will be busy on matchdays. We're asking fans to help by planning ahead, leaving more time for their journeys as queues are likely and always have alternative travel options in case of unexpected disruption.
To help fans queue comfortably and safely a dedicated fan management zone is in place at Sandhills station and worked well during the last test event. We'd ask anyone using Sandhills station to listen to any advice offered by our team, who are there to keep everyone safe and to ensure you can travel through the station as quickly as possible.
As supporters from new matchday travel habits, Merseyrail will keep doing everything we can to keep services running smoothly and make your journey easier.
