Merseyside Police to educate Taxi drivers in Southport and Merseyside

Operation Pelican Officers have  launched Operation Aftermath which aims to educate taxi drivers and disrupt criminality taking place across the area using taxis and the road network.

Operation Aftermath will see Officers deploy in plain clothes and uniform across Sefton carrying out checks on licensed vehicles and educated the drivers how to spot signs of exploitation and criminality 

Officers will also clamp down and disrupt those who are using licensed vehicles to transport criminals and drugs. 

Today, Officers have deployed in South Sefton, during which they have dealt with numerous licensed vehicles. As a result they have arrested two males in two separate incidents. A 23 year-old male from the Formbyarea was arrested for Drug Supply Offences after cannabis and a large amount of cash was seized and a 35 year-old male from Bootle was arrested for Drug Drive.

Todays action also seen taxi defect notices issued to four taxis to keep licensed vehicle standards high, and also educational leaflets and stickers placed in cabs to educated passengers whilst being taken to their destination.
