Merseyside police advice for staying safe during Storm Eunice

The Met Office have provided an Amber weather warning for today, Friday 18th February, for Storm Eunice, which may cause significant disruption due to extremely strong winds.

We are advising members of the public to stay safe, plan ahead and avoid any non-essential travel until conditions have improved.

The Amber weather warning is in place for wind throughout the day and flooding may affect coastal areas, particularly in Wirral and Sefton, given that high tides are expected around 12pm.

Councils across the borough have closed some roads and parks in areas expected to be affected by fallen trees, debris and flooding. Residents are advised to check the relevant local authority pages for details.

If you need to make an essential journey during the storm please plan ahead and drive carefully. Remember to give vulnerable road users including cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians more room than usual. They are more likely to be blown around by side winds – always keep a safe distance.

Those using public transport are advised to check for any disruption before they travel. Disruption is expected to Mersey Ferries today. National and regional Train services may be affected.

The current wind speeds are expected to peak until around 4pm and then continue to reduce throughout the evening,  with strong wind likely to continue until tomorrow.
