Nearly 800 arrested as Police continue crime crackdown across Merseyside

As part of the ongoing work to disrupt serious and organised crime on Merseyside, we have made nearly 800 arrests and more than 2,120 stop searches since the operation began in our relentless pursuit to bring criminals to justice.
 
Under Operation Miller, Merseyside Police continues to disrupt those involved in serious and organised crime in the region, making 798 arrests, 2,125 stop searches, executed 148 warrants, recovered 16 firearms and carried out 139 open land searches since it began several weeks ago.
 
Significant police operations which took place this week are as follows: 
 
On Wednesday morning, 28 September, officers noticed a man in Jaguar car acting suspiciously on the Dodge estate in Netherton. 
 
The vehicle was followed and stopped searched on Park Lane where a number of items were seized. These included a stab vest, large screwdrivers, a large wheel nut wrench and three golf clubs. The 48-year-old-man from Walton was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.
 
A police dog searched the vehicle and located a large quantity of drugs of suspected crack cocaine, around 140 wraps in total, with 100 wraps hidden in a chocolate egg.
 
The suspect was further arrested on suspicion of possession with the intent to supply Class A controlled drugs, crack cocaine. A mobile phone and cash were also seized. He has been released under investigation.
 
Later that evening in Stockbridge village, a 21-year-old man was stop searched when he was seen smoking cannabis. Two wraps of suspected cocaine was found in his possession.
 
Officers conducted a further search of an address on Colwell Road and found small quantities of cannabis, magic mushrooms and suspected cocaine along with a CS gas cannister.
 
The man from Stockbridge Village was arrested on arrested on suspicion for possession of a s5 firearm and possession of controlled Class A and B drugs. He has been released pending further enquiries.
 
On Thursday 29 September, officers stopped two men in a Volkswagen car on Walton Lane and upon searching found a large quantity of cash of around £2,000 in the vehicle.
 
A further search was carried out at a property in Everton where £8,000, a quantity of cannabis, tablets suspected to be MDMA, and a large amount of suspected counterfeit event tickets for football and concerts were seized.
 
A 44-year-old man from St Helens was arrested on suspicion of possession of criminal property. A 43-year-old from Everton was arrested on suspicion of possession of criminal property, possession of a controlled class A drug, possession with intent to supply a controlled class B drug, and possession of articles for use in fraud. Both men have been released under investigation.
 
Chief Inspector Peter Clark said: “We continue to disrupt serious and organised crime in the region by targeting criminal activity which destroys our communities.
 
“This week officers have removed drugs, dangerous weapons and suspected counterfeit tickets which can cause misery and harm to our communities and sold to fund criminality.
 
"We hope these figures and the relentless work of our officers over the past week shows our commitment in targeting anyone involved in organised crime and removing dangerous weapons and drugs from our streets.”
