New Man of the Match Trophy at Southport FC
Following on from the magnificent uptake in shirt sponsorships for the new season, we are delighted to announce the introduction of a new Man of the Match trophy.
Starting this Saturday, each winner of the Southport Brewery Man of the Match as selected by the match sponsor will receive not only a gift from the Club’s longstanding local brewery partner, but will also now receive their own personalised engraved glass trophy.
This new initiative has been made possible by the generosity of Andrei Le Roi, one of the Club’s valued vice presidents, and his family.
Andrei, his wife Diane and family lost their son, and longstanding Port fan, Adam aged just 25 in tragic circumstances in November 2020. The “Adam Le Roi Man of the Match Trophy” will now recognise not just Adam’s love for the game, but most importantly his love for Southport Football Club.
Andrei has been a supporter of Southport Football Club since he was first brought along by his dad in the late 1970’s and became a regular from around 1980 with his brother, Karl.
Like his own father before him, Andrei brought Adam to his first match at Haig Avenue on 1st December 2001, where they witnessed an entertaining game against Dagenham & Redbridge, with Steve Whitehall scoring a brace – “His equalising goal coming very late on”, as Andrei recalls.
The last game that Andrei and Adam attended together was prior to the pandemic, an FA Trophy replay against South Shields on an icy cold and foggy night in December 2019.
Andrei further said, “Whilst all the family chose to remember Adam here at the Club with a plaque on the celebration wall, this new award will also keep him involved at every game, even though he cannot be here to cheer on the team from The Jack Carr Stand, as we always did together”.
Steve Dewsnip, Head of Commercial & Operations, said: “This is a fantastic gesture from Andrei and Diane and we thank them for their continued and generous support. Since becoming a Club vice president 12 months ago, Andrei has been instrumental in bringing some new, additional sponsors to Haig Avenue, for which we are grateful and we now look forward to presenting the “Adam Le Roi Man of the Match Trophy” to some very deserving winners throughout the season.”
