New Observation Wheel in Southport is almost ready to open

The new Observation Wheel at Southport Pleasureland is almost ready to open. The area surrounding the Wheel has been landscaped and a new ticket office and Bistro is also nearing completion

Once built, the new landmark will overlook Marine Lake, with a bistro and observation deck built adjacent to the park’s model railway to complement the wheel.

“The wheel is a real show-stopper and I think the town deserves a landmark feature of this calibre and we believe it will be incredibly popular,” said Pleasureland owner Norman Wallis

“The views will be breath-taking and the observation wheel itself will be able to be clearly seen when approaching the town. This fabulous iconic feature will give people yet another reason to stop and admire the sea views – and make a hugely positive addition to Southport’s visitor appeal.”

Sefton Council granted permission for the wheel for an initial three-year period until January 2025, during which planners will assess the attraction’s impact “on historic and landscape character.”

“With a limited temporary permission of three years this will enable us to judge the full impact of the proposals during this time especially when in consideration alongside other prospective developments in and around this area.”

The “other developments” include Southport Cove Resort, which is set to deliver a 250 metre beach around a surf wave pool on Princes Park.
