New Season, New Hopes: Southport's First Game Against Merthyr Town

It’s the first game of the new season on Saturday and a long trip to Wales to face Merthyr Town. The game kicks off at 3pm.

After a disappointing 2024-25 hopes are high for 2025-26 under the guidance of new manager Neil Danns.

A good pre-season programme has seen three wins and a draw with three goals conceded all from the penalty spot (albeit one was a rebound) and eight scored.

Lots of new faces in the Southport squad as we look to get the season off to a winning start.

It will be our first ever game against Merthyr Town, we did play Mertyhr Tydfil on four occasions between 1993-94 and 1994-95 winning three and drawing once.
