Op Calibre: No hiding place for robbery offenders in Lancashire

Police are targeting some of Lancashire’s most wanted offenders as part of a national policing operation aimed at reducing robbery offences.

Operation Calibre is taking place across England, Wales, and Scotland, and will see a range of intensified action designed to crack down on personal robbery.

In Lancashire, activity will include targeting several of the most wanted offenders with the aim of bringing them into our custody before Christmas.

Last year the operation saw 385 arrests made by forces, with 427 schools and 126 local community events talking about the dangers of personal robbery taking place.

Det Chief Supt Nick Connaughton from Lancashire Police said: “Reducing robbery is a key priority locally as well as nationally. Fortunately, here in Lancashire, personal robbery is relatively low, but we recognise the impact these crimes can have on their victims, so we are committed to reducing offences further.
“Our officers work day and night to protect communities and our message to those who think it is ok to commit a robbery and inflict violence in our communities is clear: we will not tolerate this. You will end up facing significant consequences and we will catch you.

“By using all our resources over the coming weeks, we will put a stop to those who think that they can evade capture and show them that there is always a place for them in our cells.”
Andrew Snowden, Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner said: “Cracking down on robbery and burglary is a key priority in my Fighting Crime Plan, with officers proactively targeting offenders and bringing them to justice, exactly what people want to see.

“This approach shows our determination to see those who take advantage of others and steal from people's homes and businesses, behind bars and off the streets, particularly prolific offenders who blight people's lives and cause financial and emotional damage.
“I will continue to back the Chief Constable with the resources to take the fight to criminals, bring them to justice, whilst making our communities safer.”
