Operation Pelican: Two Men Arrested in Southport With Class A Drugs and Cash

arrest

In response to concerns about drug dealing in the Southport area, Operation Pelican Officers along with officers from the Southport Neighbourhood Team, conducted a plain clothes operation in Southport Town Centre on Monday 9th September 2024.

At approximately 4:30pm two men riding electric bikes tried to evade the officers. When approached by officers the two men tried to make off on their bikes before attempting to garden hop. Both men were detained at the scene and subsequently searched, where a large quantity of Class A drugs and large amount of cash were found. The men, both aged 21, from Litherland and Netherton areas, were both arrested and conveyed to custody, where the cash was seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

The bikes were then checked on the Bike Register database, which revealed that one of the bikes was confirmed to have been stolen from Burnley Town Centre within the past 2 months. It has now been seized to be linked to that investigation. This shows how important registration of bikes can be. So please look out for our free Bike Register bike marking events in your area in the coming weeks.

In addition, one of the men was further arrested for traffic offences in relation to his bike being illegally adapted into a “Twist & Go” motorbike.

Both men have since been released under investigation, pending further enquiries. One male for possession with intent to supply Class A Drugs, possession of criminal property & handling stolen goods. The other male for Possession with intent to supply Class A Drugs, disqualified driving and no insurance.

An update will be provided as/when charging decisions are made.
Our officers will continue to target those who come to the Southport and Formby area to deal drugs within our community.
