Optimistic Local Liberal Democrats Praise Council's Initiative on Restoring Fountains

Congratulations are in order, according to local Liberal Democrats, for the council officers who have quietly got on and finally got almost all the Lord St fountains back into use.
“It’s a small step,” says John Pugh , opposition leader on Sefton ,“but sometimes small steps matter quite as much as big schemes. Looking after the non-retail side of Lord St is an important function Sefton must get right.”
The only one of the Lord St fountains now not working is the ‘modern’ installation at the north end.
“Nobody in the Council seems sure about whose job it is to get it this strange, metal structure working or how it’s going to be done. However there’s no shortage of water at the moment ! “ claims Cllr.Pugh.
Question marks remain though over some of the five working installations. Some like the fountains around the war memorial are clearly suffering with poor underground plumbing and the newest fountain in the Town Hall garden may not survive the forthcoming refurbishment of the Town Hall Gardens.
“ Fountains are fun”, says John Pugh , “ but maintenance costs are surprisingly high and cover regular testing for legionella and water borne viruses. Nonetheless even in a soggy October it’s good to see them in action and good to recognise staff who will never feature in a Council press releases, but are clearly up to the heroic challenge of some fairly ancient plumbing!
