Partial closure of Coastal Road Southport from today reminder
Works are set to resume on the final phase of the Southport Coastal Road Cycle scheme, with contractors returning to the road from today Seprember 13th.
The scheme is part of the Southport East West Cycle Link improvement project, with funding from the Liverpool City Region and primarily compromises of the widening of cycle track between Weld Road roundabout and the bridge at Pinfold Lane.
Following a delay due to avoiding any disruption during the summer period and other conflicting works in the Southport area, the final stages of the cycle lane upgrade works will now be completed, with contractors working on the stretch of carriageway between Weld Road Roundabout and Shore Road Roundabout from Monday, September 13th.
These works are expected to take around four weeks to complete and require a temporary off-peak closure of the southbound lane, between the hours of 9:30am to 3:30pm Monday - Friday.
In order to carry out highway works and to maintain safety for operatives and road users, it will be necessary to close Coastal Road , Birkdale between Weld Road and Shore Road, southbound only, Monday to Friday from 09.30 - 15.30 only.
Work will commence on 13th September 2021 and is due to be completed by 8th October 2021.
The diversion route for all traffic will be via: Weld Road, Lulworth Road, Waterloo Road, Liverpool Road, Station Road, Shore Road.
Access will be maintained wherever possible for the emergency services and for residents.
The contractor has been informed of his obligation to carry out the works in accordance with Chapter Eight of the Traffic Signs Manual.
In accordance with Council policy, the applicant for the works, will publicise his intentions to close the aforementioned highway, by distributing a letter of intention to retail premises / residents who may be affected by the road closure
