Petition started to Say NO to a huge onshore WIND TURBINE on Southport’s seafront.
A petition has been started to say no to a huge onshore Wind Turbine on Southport’s seafront.
This petition seeks to prevent the installation of a large onshore wind turbine on Southport’s seafront next to popular seaside visitor attractions and within just a few hundred meters of a residential area. The site is on the Esplanade neighbouring both Victoria Park and Pleasureland Amusement Park.
The project is being led by Zero Carbon Liverpool City Region and will see an 89m (292ft) tall turbine on council owned land at the Esplanade. Other reports have it varying from 77m to 99.5m tall. At any measure, this is going to be big and will have an enormous visual impact on the seafront and the town.
This is significantly taller than the nearby turbine at the Eco Centre (25.5m), Southport’s ‘Big Wheel’ (34m), Marine Way Bridge (56m), and the former gas tower (84m) which could be seen from as far away as Blackpool and Winter Hill.
We wish to express in no uncertain terms that this project is unsuitable in this location, and that the council, as landowners, should not allow this proposal to continue any further.
If you too object to this proposal, please sign (and share) the petition, and make your wishes heard by the council.
