Pictures and video from inside the abandoned Hesketh Centre in Southport
A group called Abandoned UK have broken into the Hesketh Centre on Albert Road in Southport and shared video and images online. The Hospital was closed in 2020 and staff and patients transferred the the newly built Hartley Hospital on Scarisbrick new Road.
The video shows the amount of items left behind and the sad vandalism that has taken place.
A spokesman for Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are aware of footage shot from inside the Hesketh Centre and broadcast online.
"This building was vacated in December 2020 by patients and staff with services re-locating to the newly-built Hartley Hospital.
“Our mental health inpatient services were moved to the state-of-the-art facilities at Hartley Hospital because the Hesketh Centre was no longer fit for purpose.
"The site has been secured and Mersey Care has reviewed the security arrangements and enhanced them following this incident.
“Mersey Care remains committed to improving our estate buildings across our geographical footprint to allow clinical excellence, prevention and integration in our services. We have already engaged property consultants to list the property on the market and aim to sell the building in accordance with the NHS Estate Code.”
