Pier petition hits 3000 signatures at weekend Birkdale Village stall
3000 people have now signed the petition to re-open the pier following a street stall in Birkdale Village held yesterday.
Southport Lib Dems started the petition in January this year to call on Sefton Council to undertake work needed on the pier in phases and so avoid full closure. This advice was included in the recent structural engineers report.
Erin Harvey, Lib Dem Parliamentary spokesperson and Birkdale resident, commented. "Southport residents and visitors were queueing up to sign the petition, upset to be denied a walk on the pier over the Easter weekend and during beautiful weather.
"People from all ages and backgrounds want to see their pier re-open. We hope Sefton Council realise the strength of feeling and don't just let our pier gather dust when it could be enjoyed while work carries on."
