Police and Public Work Together to Catch Suspected Shoplifter in Southport Town Centre
Police would like to thank Members of the Public for assisting Local Policing Officers on the afternoon of Monday 20th March in Southport Town Centre.
Officers had seen a man running from a shop with numerous items of clothing still on their hangers. Members of staff from the shop were chasing him. It was suspected the items were stolen.
After a long foot chase through the town centre and an extensive area search by Response and Traffic Officers, the man was detained on Lord Street and arrested on suspicion of theft.
Members of the public had seen the man running and directed Officers to the route he took which resulted in him being detained. £500 worth of clothing was recovered by the shop staff. A bank card was also found in his possession that did not belong to him.
A great example of police and public working together to stop those committing crime in our neighbourhood.
