Police close Albert Road in Southport after grenade found in block of flats. Update
Police can confirm that officers are in Southport attending to an incident this morning, Friday 24 June.
At around 10.50am, we were called to flats on Albert Road to reports of a suspected grenade being found during building works. Enquiries are ongoing.
A cordon is in place and Albert Road has been closed, at the junctions with North Street and Alexander Road. Please avoid the area.
Merseyside Police has confirmed that the scene earlier today was caused due to a "practice grenade".
The Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended and confirmed the lack of threat from the device.
