Police Dog Reggie Helps Uncover £50,000 Cash and 50 Wraps of Drugs in Southport and Newton-le-Willows

It was a busy day yesterday for Police Dog Reggie, who helped sniff out £50,000 in cash from a property in Southport and later that same day found 50 wraps of suspected drugs in Newton-le-Willows.

In the morning on Wednesday 12 April, PD Reggie assisted North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU) as part of an ongoing investigation into the online sale of counterfeit goods.

A warrant was carried out at a property in Southport and some fine dog detective work led to the discovery of £50,000 which had been hidden inside a children’s bedroom.

In total, £110,000 was discovered during the course of this search and NWROCU’s enquiries remain ongoing in this investigation.

Later that same day, PD Reggie assisted Merseyside Police officers in Newton-le-Willows.

Officers arrested a man after they spotted him discarding an unknown item near Wargrave Road and PD Reggie managed to sniff out two packages containing around 50 wraps of suspected Class A drugs.

An 18-year-old man from Newton-le-Willows was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (heroin and cocaine). He has been released on unconditional bail pending further enquiries.

Inspector Katie Wilkinson said: “Our highly-trained specialist rummage dogs can find anything from drugs, cash and weapons, and we’re pleased to see PD Reggie assist in these two incidents.

“We’re committed to tackling the misery that organised crime and drugs supply causes in Merseyside and beyond, so if you have any information to assist, come forward and we will take action.”
