Police are guarding Southport Synagogue after the Manchester attack this morning.

Two people have been killed - and a suspect is believed to have died after being shot by police - following an attack at a synagogue in Manchester on the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur.

A third person, believed to be the offender who was shot by firearms officers, was also understood to be deceased.

The force said it could not confirm this due to safety issues surrounding "suspicious items on his person". A bomb disposal unit is at the scene.
