Police issue advice ahead of the first Southport Air Show for three years

This weekend is the first Southport Air Show since the covid cancellations. The weather forecast is good for both days of the event and with a strong programme of aircraft flying, large numbers of people are expected to be coming in to Southport.

Full details and FAQ's about the event can be fund at the official website here: https://orlo.uk/nSBY0

ROAD CLOSURES WILL BE IN PLACE ON MARINE DRIVE BETWEEN WELD ROAD AND FAIRWAYS ROUNDABOUT FROM 7:00am - 7:00pm SATURDAY and SUNDAY.

If you are coming from a distance away, public transport is the best way to avoid traffic delays. If your are driving then it is recommended that you set off early, as road closures for the event to be operated, mean that Marine Drive, The Promenade and Lord Street do get very busy. On your journey to the Southport Air Show you can tune into the dedicated Air Show Radio 87.7FM -  this will keep you updated with traffic news. Event marshalls will be staffing the road closures and will direct you towards event car parks, which open at 9:00am and 10:am

Police Officers will be on duty inside and outside the event.

As with any large event, is advisable to take precautions to keep yourselves and personal belonging safe:

LOCK YOU CAR : It's easy to get distracted getting the family all out one you arrive, but take the time to just double check that you've left your vehicle locked.

DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING OF VALUE IN YOUR VEHICLE :  Not even a coat or carrier bag. Keep anything you aren't taking with you in the boot, out of view.

KEEP PERSONAL BELONGINGS CLOSE TO YOUR BODY :  Keep wallets, purses, mobile phones in zipped pockets, close to you.

ARRANGE A MEETING PLACE : In case anyone in the family goes missing. Report anyone missing to a steward, Police Officer or PCSO. If you have a photo that will help us to find them and if you can remember what they are wearing that will help too.

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SUSPICIOUS, REPORT IT : Don't rely on someone else reporting it.  Tell a steward, Police Officer or PCSO.

It's the first Southport Air Show for three years and we are all looking forward to it. Have a great time.  Keep safe and keep your belongings safe and come and say 'hello' to us if you see on or around the site.
