Potential Job Boost as Plans for Gym in Southport's Central 12 Retail Park Emerge

Plans to convert a former Poundworld in Southport into a 24 hour gym have been lodged. The scheme has the potential to create 30 jobs. 

London and Cambridge Properties has submitted a change of use application for Unit 6 at Central 12 Retail Park. 

The unit is located immediately adjacent to Next and Boots on the business park, which also accommodates brands including Asda and The Range. 

Spanning 5,747 sq ft, the site has been vacant since Poundworld left the property and, despite continual marketing, no retail users have expressed any interest in the premises. 

A planning statement submitted by D2 Planning Limited on behalf of the applicant said that the scheme could create up to 30 full and part time jobs, and would result in further investment in the retail park. 

The statement added that the gym would "increase the vitality and viability of the town centre".
