Local Lib Dems and the Council have secured funding that will mean the replacement of all the trees on Preston New Road that have had to be taken down due to decay and ash dieback.

In September it was announced that 42 trees had to be felled for safety reasons. Meols Ward Lib Dem Councillors and the Council stepped in and agreed to replace the trees.

Due  to funding constraints the planting was agreed to be phased, with local Councillors funding 9 cherry trees from ward funds.

Following bidding for external funding, the Local Authority Treescapes Fund has provided funding which will allow for all trees on the road to now be replaced. Planting is to take place over winter.

Lib Dem Councillors have also agreed to fund two replacement trees on Carisbrooke Drive.

Lib Dem Councillor John Dodd, commented: “This is absolutely fantastic news. We are delighted to have been able to keep our promise that the trees on Preston New Road will bloom again, delivering it earlier than we hoped to.

“The trees aren’t just a signature look for the road they are also a boost to the local environment and make our area a more attractive place to live.”
