Sefton’s First Green Group Formed as Party Momentum Grows

Green councillors officially formed the first ever Green Group on Sefton
Council at the Council’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday evening. The
newly-formed group says its approach will be constructive, principled
and community-led.

Councillors Kieran Dams, Neil Doolin, and Samantha Cook were elected on
7 May by the residents of Waterloo in south Sefton. Following today’s
AGM, the Green councillors have secured seats on council committees,
which will give the Green Group a meaningful role in shaping decisions,
scrutinising council actions, and ensuring residents’ voices are heard
across Sefton.

Cllr Neil Doolin, Leader of the Green Group, said:

“This is a historic moment for Greens in Sefton and we’re excited to get
to work. Residents voted for a stronger voice, better scrutiny, and
councillors who will stand up for local communities.

“Too many people feel unheard or overlooked in politics. Our job is to
make sure residents have strong advocates in the council chamber:
championing local concerns, pushing for action where services are
falling short, and holding the administration to account in a
constructive and positive way.

“We’re determined to be visible, hardworking councillors who listen to
residents and deliver practical results for our communities.”

The Sefton Green Group says its priorities for the year ahead will
include:

* Providing strong and effective scrutiny of the Labour administration
at every level of the council.
* Giving residents a stronger voice on the issues affecting their
communities and quality of life.
* Pushing for practical improvements to local services, neighbourhood
environments and community wellbeing.
