Rosie Cooper MP seeks progress on Fiveways junction improvement a major route into Southport

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has called on Lancashire County Council to finally progress its planned improvements to the Fiveways Junction in Ormskirk.   

In light of a number of incidents over recent years, MP Rosie has been pursuing LCC and Lancashire Constabulary to ensure safety improvements are implemented.   

She was told by LCC last year that a number of planned improvements including road markings would be undertaken and that a red-light/speed camera was also a priority but was at the time waiting for Home Office approval.   

Rosie Cooper MP said:
“Having campaigned for improvements to this Fiveways Junction for many years, I was pleased when Lancashire County Council as the Highways Authority chose to look at installing a red-light/speed camera.   

“This process has been very long-winded with the camera itself requiring Home Office Type Approval (HOTA) before being able to progress.   

“I have lobbied the Home Secretary for her office to make a decision and allow LCC to progress with getting the camera in place as soon as possible so motorists, cyclists and pedestrians’ safety can be improved.   

“Home Office Minister Kit Malthouse has written to me confirming that HOTA has been granted and the HOTA Order has been signed. The manufacturer, Jenoptik has also signed the necessary agreement requiring certain standard duties.   

“With HOTA now in place, I have written to the Chief Executive at Lancashire County Council asking when we are going to see the camera in place and the other promised safety improvements such as alterations to the road markings.”
