'Sad Moment for Democracy': Lib Dems on Council Meeting Disruption

Statement from Lib Dems

"The suspension of last nights Council meeting is a sad moment for local democracy in Sefton.

"Residents deserve and need to have their say but it has to be conducted in the right forum. Shouting from the gallery just throws meetings into disarray and means no one can be heard properly.

"Council meetings are there to debate and agree on a variety of topics. Tonight important debates on reports such as youth justice and children's services were on the agenda, but didn't happen because of the disruption. The meetings are also the only time opposition councillors like us can hold the Council to account.

"We need to make sure that tonight doesn't set a precedent that a small group of people can stop the democratic process."
