Scunthorpe United 2 Southport 0 in front of 4272 fans

match repoer

It was always going to be tough against the league leaders but gifting them two goals through two uncharacteristic defensive errors in the first half was all it took to give the home side the three points.

Ironically Southport played some decent football in the first period and Tom Moore and Danny Philliskirk both went close but once that second goal went in the writing was on the wall.

The goals for Scunthorpe came in the 11th and 38th minutes.

The second half was a non event as far as we were concerned, Scunthorpe were in control and if it hadn’t been for the briliance of Chris Renshaw in the Southport goal the scoreline could have looked a whole lot worse.
