Sefton Officers Conduct Extensive Vehicle Checks Amidst Neighbourhood Policing Week

Officers from Sefton have today (Wednesday 24 January) conducted vehicle checks across the region, continuing efforts to educate road users on the dangers of the ‘fatal four’ namely, drink and drug driving, using a mobile phone behind the wheel, excess speeding and seatbelt offences.  

The latest operation coincides with Neighbourhood Policing Week, which takes place from the 22nd to 28th January 2024. This week, the force is highlighting some of the initiatives and partnership work carried out by Local Policing teams throughout the year and how they are making a difference to the places that people live, work and visit in Merseyside.

Sergeant Thomas Grindle, Sefton Local Policing said: “We are urging motorists to drive safely in 2024 after our successful, annual Christmas Op Limit campaign came to an end.

“Although the campaign is now over for another year, we are still reminding people to be safe when getting behind the wheel and resist the temptation to drive when under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”

Sergeant Grindle added, “If you do drive under the influence of drink, drugs, or both, you are putting your own safety at risk, the safety of everyone in your vehicle, and the safety of every other road user you come across on your journey. Merseyside Police take a firm approach to taking dangerous drivers off our streets and will continue to do so all year round.”

The operation saw 143 cars stopped throughout the day, with three drivers dealt with for traffic offences, and numerous breathalysers and drug wipes administered, which were all negative. Some drivers were also dealt with by words of advice. 
In addition, there were three stop searches, four taxis were issued with stop notices and five taxis advised to have defects fixed.
