Sefton Prepares for Whole Council Elections
Whole Council elections will be held in Sefton tomorrow(Thursday 7 May 2026)
This means that all 66 seats on the Council will become vacant and new councillors will be elected.
Each of the 22 electoral wards will elect three councillors. The candidate who records the most votes will serve a 4-year term of office until May 2030.
The candidate who records the second most number of votes will serve a 2-year term of office until May 2028.
The candidate who records the third most number of votes will serve a term of office of 1 year until May 2027.
Are You Vote Ready?
If you are on the electoral register and eligible to vote, you will receive a poll card before the election. This will tell you when and where to vote. If you lose your poll card you can still vote.
You must bring Photo ID with you when voting in person.
On the day of the election you will need to go in person to a polling station to vote and will be asked your name and address, you will also have to show photographic ID to the polling station staff.

At The Polling Station
Staff in the polling station will be clearly identified with a name badge, they can assist with:
Explaining the voting process
Moving around the polling station
Using the tactile voting device
Reading out the candidates names and parties in the order on the ballot paper
Mark your ballot paper for you if required
If would prefer, you can choose to take a friend or relative (who must be over the age of 18) into the polling station with you to help you to vote.
Both the Polling Station staff or companions are required to complete a declaration form before they assist you.
Please let the staff know if you need any additional support whilst in the polling station.
