South Shields 0 Southport 0 . Southport safe from relegation

match repoer

Stalemate in South Shields as we record our seventh goalless draw of the season but we do gain the point we needed to ensure we wre playing in the National North next season.

It was a game lacking in quality but Southport had chances to come away with all three points and do a double over the full time side.

Dior Angus and Danny Lloyd both should have scored but fired wide or delayed with the ball for too long to give the home rearguard the chance to recover after working openings.

Chris Renshaw in the Southport goal was rarely tested all afternoon but did have to be alert to save late on from a Shields free kick

It was a 14th legaue clean sheet of the season for Renshaw which is a great record but it was also our 19th game without scoring, equalling last season’s tally.
