Southport lose back to back home league games after a late penalty settles the game despite an abundance of chances.

The first half started with a string of chances for Port with the best of them falling to Watson’s feet but his shot on the turn didn’t beat Harding.

The Visitors then had a chance of their own when Obadeyi wins a header that struck both posts before being cleared away from danger

The highlight of the half however came in added time when Carver had a shot blocked and the ball fell to an off-balance Watson who from 6 yards out couldn’t hit the ball with enough purchase to beat the keeper.

The half finished without a goal with Southport feeling they should have been in front with the chances that went missing.

The second half started with Holmes beating the keeper to a header which was unfortunately cleared off the line by a Banbury defender.

Southport kept pushing but it was the visitors who found the opening with 10 minutes to go, Maja-Awesu was tripped in the box resulting in a penalty with Charles converted making it 1-0. The third pen Southport have conceded in a row.

The home side pushed for a late equaliser with Brad Holmes almost snatching the equaliser in the 98th minute but it was superbly saved by the ‘keeper and the game ended in the visitors favour making it 3 losses in a row in the league.

Attention turns now to an away trip to Rushall Olympic on Saturday 4th November.
