Southport 0 Chester 2 match report
A 2-0 home defeat for The Sandgrounders to arguably the best side we have played this season.
Southport started slowly and could have fallen behind after just 14 seconds and that was the pattern of the first half with Chester spurning a number oif good chances including a penalty save by Chris Renshaw in the Southport goal.
The opening goal came in the 7th minute after poor defensive work allowed Glendon an easy finish.
Southport rarely threatened the visitors goal in the first period but hung on in to go into the break just the one goal behind.
The second half started much more positively and only the woodwork stopped Luke Burgess from getting a goal back but that was as good as it got and Chester increased the lead in the 56th minute with a cool finish from Whitehouse and any momentum that was picking up was lost and the visitors saw the game out quite easily.
