Southport 0 Warrington Town 4

0-4

A very disappointing afternoon at The Big Help Stadium sees Southport slump to a 4-0 home defeat.

A bright and end to end first half with both sides creating chances and no sign of what was to come in the second period.

A tremendous goal deep into added time in the first half was against the run of play, as the home side had dominated the last 25 minutes of the half, set the visitors up for a dominant second half performance with Southport all at sea at the back.

It could have been a different story if the chances created in the first half had been taken but over the 90 minutes there can be no real complaints about the scoreline with too many of the home players on off days.

Southport did have the ball in the net midway through the first half through Tyler Walton but his effort was chalked off for a marginal offside against him, it was very close.

Warrington could/should have been reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Tony Thompson deliberately handled the ball outside the area but the referee only gave a yellow much to everyone’s surprise.

Three sceond half goals sealed the win for a bouyant Warrington in their first ever game in Vanarama National North.
