Southport 1 Spennymoor 1
Southport and Spennymoor cancelled each other out in a wind affected game that finished 1-1.
The wind played a big part all afternoon and the game became scrappy with little quality but plenty of effort.
Southport were attacking the Blowick End in the first half and into the wind and created a few openings but unable to penetrate the experienced Spennymoor back line. Jack Bainbridge and a Michael Carberry corner which hit the post saw the home side go close early on
With two minutes added time shown Jordan Archer missed a golden chance to give the home side the lead heading against the bar when well placed and Spennymoor went straight down the other end and scored through Robbie Ramshaw who finished well from 10 yards out.
With Southport kicking with the wind in the second period hopes were high that it would work to our advantage but sometimes the wind can play havoc with the passing and so it proved with passes going astray.
A corner taken by Charlie Munro in the 61st minute was headed home by the unmarked Connor Woods in the six yard box as Southport piled on the pressure but couldn’t find the winner and it was the visitors finished strongly and looked more threatening.
In the end nobody could argue with a 1-1 draw and we remain on the edge of a very crowded battle for the final play off places.
