Southport 2 Brackley Town 2 Match Report
Southport are held to a draw after a very close game at Haig Avenue ended 2-2.
It was a game that could’ve resulted in all 3 points if not for a couple quality saves by the Brackley keeper Danny Lewis
The first half started with a bang as a build up of early attacks resulted in a goal when Chris Doyle found himself with a 1 on 1 and calmly slotted the ball home giving Southport the lead in the 2nd minute.
In the 28th minute it looked as though Southport would double their lead when a back pass went wrong giving Archer a seemingly simple finish past Lewis in goal but Lewis quickly shut down any chance of capitalising on the short back pass and cleared the ball away from danger.
Brackley managed to bring the game level in the 31st minute when Callum Stead found himself behind the Port defence and slotted a delicate finish into the top corner beating McMillan who could only get his fingertips on the ball.
A stop-start half of football ended 1-1 with neither side really creating many chances.
Southport started the second half strongly but it was Brackley who took the lead in the 62nd minute when a bouncing ball in the box was poked over McMillan’s head by Armson.
Southport then had a couple chances to equalise when in the 75th minute a deep ball by Quansah finds Evans unmarked and he haeded the ball across goal and comfortably past Lewis.
The final 15 had chances for both sides but in the end the score finished 2-2, a good result against a team in fine form and who were sat at the top of the league before kick off
A blow by blow account of the game is on Matchday Live.
Next up is another home game this time against Farsley Celtic on Saturday at 3pm.
