Southport cruised into the FA Trophy 3rd Round with a comfortable 3-0 win against Warrington Town this afternoon.

Goals from Luke Burgess in the 13th and 30th minutes and a third from Sonny Hilton in the 80th minute see the club into the hat for the 3rd round draw on Monday when sides from the National League enter the draw.

With a few injuries and ineligible players due to cup tied and loan players not being eligible manager Jim Bentley had to once again shuffle the pack but he got a great response from the 11 on the pitch with one of the best displays of his management tenure.

The first goal came from a goalkeeper/defender error which was pounced on by Burgess who fired home from close range.

Burgess got his second after great work down the right flank between the impressive David Morgan and Sam Minihan who fired the ball into the six yard box and he was on hand to slot home.

Southport created a host of chances in the first half and the only disappointment was not going into the break further ahead.

There was more of the same in the second period and whilst the visitors offered a bit more going forward Chris Renshaw in the home goal was rarely troubled.

Sonny Hilton put the icing on the cake in the 80th minute with a fine finish firing across the keeper and into the corner of the goal.
