Southport 4 Bradford PA 1
Southport’s best win of the season saw a relatively comfortable 4-1 win against bottom of the table Bradford Park Avenue.
Southport had the best start possible with Jack Bainbridge firing home a lovely strike from 22 yards, a real goal of the season contender after 5 minutes that the ‘keeper stood no chance with.
Chances came and went with great regularity in a first half dominated by the home side, the only surprise was it took until the 41st minute for Tyler Walton to finish from close range after great work by the in form Watson and Archer to make it 2-0.
Southport increased the lead through Charlie Oliver from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute after a handball by a visiting defender.
A goal out of the blue gave Bradford a lifeline in added time of the first half after some hesitancy in the Southport defence to make the half time score 3-1.
Bradford put in plenty of effort in the second period without really troubling Cam Mason in the home goal and it was Southport who always looked the more likely to increase the scoring with Marcus Carver, Josh Hmami and Jordan Archer all going close before Archer put the icing on the cake with a header from close range after a great cross in from the outstanding Niall Watson.
Our game against King’s Lynn scheduled for October 15th will be rearranged as they are still involved in the FA Cup on that date.
