Southport and Ormskirk hospitals shortlisted for patient safety award

The Trust is one of six nationally to be recognised by the trade journal Health Service Journal in the category for Harnessing a Human Factors Approach to Improve Patient Safety.

The nomination is in recognition of the Trust’s Integrated Governance team which redesigned its patient safety and quality training programme to help reduce human error and enhance the quality of patient care and safety.

To date, the team has trained more than 140 members staff, including midwives, healthcare assistants, physicians and surgeons.

The training helps staff identify challenges, such as in the workplace, with equipment and processes, and how to best adapt and use resources.

The training is delivered by a team of three and covers theoretical practices and real-life scenarios, which can be tailored to specific departments.

“This great work will help us ensure that patient safety at the Trust is paramount.”

The awards ceremony will take place on 15 September 2022 as part of the Patient Safety Congress in Manchester.
