Our poor run continued at Farsley on Easter Monday when two penalties and a host of missed chances saw us slip to a 2-0 defeat. Having seen the pens again both look very harsh but that’s what happens when the football gods are going against you.
Now is the time to rally round the players and manager as we go in search of a win that could still see the play offs in reach.
Whilst we were going down to defeat at Farsley, Spennymoor had a fine 3-0 win against local rivals Blyth Spartans to push themselves back into play off contention.
Both sides go into the game knowing a win can keep the play off ambitions alive and a keenly contested game is anticipated.
The evergreen James Curtis and, arguably, the best striker at this level in Glen Taylor will once again be the ones to watch.
We have already met on three occasions this season with a win, draw and defeat each. The league game earlier in the season was shrouded in controversy when a dubious refereeing decision that had manager Liam Watson raging (along with a few of the travelling faithful) saw a draw snatched from our grasp. It seems a long time ago now.
Head To Head-It’s time to set the league record straight as we have never beaten Spennymoor, in either guise, in a league game here at Haig Ave.
