Southport Conservative Association commented...
We would like to offer our warm congratulations to Cllr Mike Morris, who has been made an MBE in Queen Elizabeth II's 2022 Birthday Honours.
Alongside serving as the Conservative Councillor for Cambridge Ward in Southport, Captain Mike Morris is also Chairman of the UK Maritime Pilots Association, and has been awarded his honour for services to the Maritime Industry.
From the outset of the pandemic, Mike worked tirelessly to keep pilots safe in order to keep Britain's ports open. In so doing, he ensured that vital goods could arrive in the country, before journeying on to their final destination.
In co-operation with the Department of Transport and Department of Health and Social Care, he helped produce and disseminate Covid-19 guidance for maritime pilots, with the aim of minimising the number of pilots succumbing to the virus and disruption to Britain's imports and exports.
He made sure staff had early access to testing, while also playing an essential role in providing them with sufficient supplies of PPE. Mike worked closely will all 48 pilot services in Britain, ensuring the community was well-informed throughout the pandemic and that any concerns were urgently relayed to Government.
We would like to thank Cllr Morris not only for all of his heroic work throughout the pandemic, for which he has rightly been recognised, but also for his dedicated service to his residents in Cambridge Ward as a local councillor.
Congratulations Mike!
