Labour have delivered the biggest tax hike in modern history - £40 billion in tax rises, £1,400 per household, the highest tax burden since records began

After today’s Budget, households across Southport will be reeling from the onslaught of tax increases from Labour.

The total tax increase amount to £40 billion, with an average cost of £1,400 per household. Increases to National Insurance, Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax are just a few of the tax hikes Labour are imposing on the British people.

Mike Prendergast, parliamentary spokesperson for Southport Conservatives, said “Over 50 times during the General Election, Labour said they would not increase taxes. Yet that’s exactly what they’ve done. It’s the same old Labour.”

“This is an anti-growth, anti-aspiration and anti-ambition budget that punishes those who work hard and save for their future. The changes to borrowing rules will see future generations burdened with Labour’s debts and we are on course with this terrible Labour government to have the highest tax burden since records began.”

“The huge NI increases for employers will massively hit small and medium sized businesses, the changes to Inheritance Tax will hit family farms and businesses and anyone who has saved into a pension and the increase in Capital Gains Tax will deter entrepreneurs from setting up their own businesses.”

“Increasing taxes does not generate growth; government dipping its hand into people’s pockets is not going to make people feel better off it will simply harm consumer confidence.”

“Southport’s Labour MP, Patrick Hurley, has already voted to punish our pensioners. He’s now going to be voting to punish Southport’s many small businesses, increasing their NI, he’s going to vote to punish entrepreneurs in Southport who might want to sell their business with increased Capital Gains Tax and in the Northern Parishes, virtually every single family farm and agricultural business will face the prospect of being broken up due to massive changes in Inheritance Tax rules.”

“Once again, Labour have shown they don’t care about those in Southport who work hard, who save for the future, who take risks and generate jobs and wealth. Labour weren’t straight with the British people during the election and we are all now going to pay the price.”
