Southport Conservatives Slam Reform UK's Bid to Scrap Two-Child Benefit Cap

Mike Prendergast, Spokesperson for Southport Conservatives, has slammed Reform UK’s proposal to scrap the two-child benefit cap as an “uncosted, irresponsible, Corbyn-style policy that betrays hardworking taxpayers.”
“Reform UK are quickly proving themselves to be nothing more than Jeremy Corbyn in a Union Jack tie,” said Mike Prendergast.
“Their proposal to remove the two-child benefit cap is a multi-billion pound welfare giveaway with no credible explanation of how it will be paid for. It’s the same old story: big promises, no plan—just like Labour under Corbyn.”
“Reform might like to play the anti-establishment outsiders, but this latest announcement shows they’re simply taking over from Jeremy Corbyn. We’re just a tweet away from Reform offering free broadband for all.”
“This latest proposal from Reform isn’t grounded in reality, you can’t promise massive tax cuts at the same time as increasing welfare spending. We need to get the welfare bill down, not make it bigger. Reform like to give the appearance of being believers in free markets, a small state and low taxes but they’re starting to show their true colours now.”
“The two-child cap on Universal Credit was introduced to ensure fairness and personal responsibility. Most families across Southport and the UK make careful decisions based on what they can afford. We should be rewarding those people not handing out more benefits, it’s simply not fair on those who do work and support themselves.”
“Reform’s plans would throw that principle out the window, handing out ever-growing welfare cheques with taxpayers left to pick up the bill,” Prendergast added.
“At a time when families are grappling with the cost of living and public services are under pressure, Reform’s reckless spending plans would wreck the economy and set us back years. These are the policies of the left, and makes it truer than ever to say vote Reform, get Labour.”
“Southport residents don’t want a reheated version of Corbynism from Reform —they want sensible, credible policies that reward work and it’s only the Conservatives who will deliver that.”
